Horace Mann article
I would like to get everyone's opinions on this article. For my part, I am disturbed most by the involvement of students in the dispute between the faculty and the trustees. That teachers would ask their students to sign a petition to retain Trees is unacceptable. Their education and overall HM experience should not be disrupted by the administration's red tape. I am also upset to hear of the leverage the trustees have over the administration and faculty. I am sure this was true when Z, G, and I attended HM but it just had not been reported on. It's sad that the faculty is blatantly subordinate to these trustees and their children. When a healthy discourse is subverted by both the trustees and the headmaster (who, by all accounts, is not qualified for the post), the students are robbed of the right, and more disturbingly, the cognizance that they SHOULD have the right to question or criticize the status quo.
